I'm aware this is shockingly late, but we have valentines bento for all to see :) This is the 'Pretty, pretty princess' bento, complete with butterflies and a golden crown. There are pork siu mai, some carrot and burdock/gobo kinpira, a little kangaroo steak, dipping sauce (for the dumplings) and an instant miso soup in the right tier, the rice is mixed with some kinpira, the egg offcuts (from the butterflies) and sesame seeds, the whole is topped in nori and egg sheet crown and butterflies.

I'll start with an apology, I'm very sorry to anyone who followed this blog that I have abandoned it for so long. I was without internet for a while as i moved house, I also broke up with the giant which meant I didn't cook as much. I'm back now, but there will be no fixed update schedule, fair warning, it will likely be infrequently updated. Thanks to anyone who read my blog in the past, and hopefully I didn't loose all of my followers with my impromptu hiatus.
This is mostly due to a good friend of mine pestering me to come back here, if you're reading this Gavin, thank you, I needed the push. Made lunch with a few bits left over from earlier in the week, grapes and blueberries, salami and cheese, broccoli, and rice. Tasty!
Being repetitive should help use up the rest of the sauce :P
Did bulk it out with a bit of sausage though. Really sorry, the weathers been up the left here, the power and internet have been on the fritz, so today we are playing catchup. Apologies. Friday - Steamed rice with seaweed furikake, egg, spiced sausage and broccoli. Monday - Vegetarian spaghetti with mature cheddar (special request from the Giant)
Met up with my family today, so no bento, more tomorrow though :) The Domtower is the tallest church tower in the Nederlands, It was separated from the church by and act of god. A freak tornado destroyed the connecting building between the church and the tower and left both of them untouched, so they kept them separate. The tower and the church. Up next, the inside of the tower. Me in my red leather coat being attacked by camera glare, in the room telling you the history of the tower. The bells! The bells! I was reminded of the hunchback of Notre Dame. These are the musical bells used to play tunes, they work via a sort of massive piano thing you press with your fists instead of your fingers. Kind of creepy all things considered. I made up for that with treats though. No holiday is complete until I get a new bento box! Got this one in a fancy bakery, best souvenir ever!
Finally I have come back from Utrecht! It was fantastic, I had a great time and took a bunch of pictures. They're not the professional quality I would like but hopefully you will see a little bit of Utrecht through my eyes. Everyone there seems to cycle rather than drive, I was almost run over on the cycle paths... This was the parking outside our hotel. This is one of the only places I've ever gone where I had to keep an eye on the path to make sure I didn't miss anything! Miffy graffiti included! And of course no trip to Utrecht would be complete without a visit to the dick bruna huis. The home of the late inventor of Miffy/Nijntje! Golden Miffy! They made a maze/artwork spanning two floors, to me no matter how you looked at it, it was an optical illusion. The cast of the Miffy movie! But then we went upstairs and it got a little weird... This is the narnia wardrobe you had to go through to reach the toilets... It was an installation art piece called pee-pee in the forest, the corner of the room on the other side had pictures of little red riding hood in a forest. Then there were mini toy displays. It was all a bit surreal...
I'm going to save the last of the photos for tomorrows post, among them are views from the tallest clock tower in the Nederlands! One last thing. Onigiri (some plain some with diced chicken and two round ones with furikake), chicken strips with chilli sauce, soy sauce eggs and two portions of stir fry (broccoli, carrot and beansprout) Don't know if all this will get eaten Well the Giant decided that after watching me today that cooking is strenuous, so I won't be posting for a few days. On top of that, I have a holiday booked from Thursday until next Monday, I will take as many pictures as I can, but I won't be doing much cooking then either, so I will not be online until next Tuesday. Apologies to my readers. Rice with furikake, lettuce leaf baran, steak pieces in gravy, blueberries, black grapes and broccoli, very filling. Though I also had a banana for a snack. Tiny banana! got a bunch of eight for a pound, bargain. Decided to call them bentonanas from now on, didnt think you could buy them so small.
Also just to let you know the Giants brother has a new baby, we will be visiting tomorrow so no bento again u Here we have steamed rice, vege stir-fry with carrot, snow peas and baby corn, half a boiled egg and a cup of blueberries. Really hit the spot. Thanks to the Giant for taking the photo today, my phones been acting up lately, might have to save for a new one...
