First step was mixing the freshly steamed rice with a little salt, sugar and rice vinegar. Then I added all the tasty toppings, I used flaked salmon, cocktail prawns, peas and mangetout/snow peas.
Today's lunches consisted of one bento and one sit-in lunch at home. When I'm having my lunch in the house I prefer to have it on a plate, mostly because I can heat it up and have a nice warm meal. Above we have my lunch for today, as you can see its not a bento, it was however delicious. I decided to use up some of the tasty treats I had in the fridge, what better way to do that than chirashi sushi/chirashizushi? (not 100% sure which way would be best to write it) First step was mixing the freshly steamed rice with a little salt, sugar and rice vinegar. Then I added all the tasty toppings, I used flaked salmon, cocktail prawns, peas and mangetout/snow peas. The giant's bento really cheered him up today, I included some of his favourite foods. He has a bed of rice topped with nori, sliced boiled egg, baby carrots and ham slices quickly tossed in teriyaki sauce and sesame seeds.

Fried rice, with peas, onions and mushrooms. Topped with teriyaki chicken, sticky and delicious. The giant opted for plain rice and covered it with pulled pork shoulder (from my little freezer stash) with grated cheese and my home-made BBQ sauce I desperately need to get a digital camera, between the two phones I'm getting the majority of my bentos online, but I would prefer them to look a little more professional and less 'I grabbed a few snaps before throwing this in my bag...'
Spicy veggie tofu, a bowl of rice and a little sachet of miso soup. I love a big lunch for work, can be a bit tiring on my feet all day so a wee pick me up is awesome.
What's also awesome is my samurai bento box (from the giant of course), just seeing him waiting on me in the fridge really perks me up even before I get a look at my lunch. Also a nice bright morning was great today, pity it was followed by a short sharp shower of hailstones in the afternoon... Managed to eat all the strawberries yesterday evening, leaving none for today... Still managed to make a full lunch though, so we have peas, steamed rice, salmon grilled with shichimi togharashi, pickled onions and soy sauce mushrooms. Way too many peas, but of course I had no other veg to add, Maybe the next bento will be a little more colourful... Fingers crossed.
I love strawberries, even though they're out of season I spotted them on offer and had to have them. For some reason I can't stand strawberry-flavoured anything though, absolutely turns me.
Anyhow, here we have strawberries, half a three egg tamagoyaki, steamed rice with shichimi togharashi on it ( I love a hit of spice in the winter) and some broccoli. Simple but good. Top left going clockwise we have soy sauce mushrooms, Broccoli with cheese, a peanut-butter cup, a one egg tamagoyaki and grapes. No carbs, but even so, really tasty.
Cant get enough of those mushrooms, got chestnut mushrooms and they just taste great fried dry and then splashed in soy, could eat them all day. Wednesdays' is a tad late, apologies. Wed is the day I and a few friends meet up and have a few drinks, I will have to set a reminder for myself from now on... Clockwise from top left we have green grapes, cheese (mature cheddar mmmmm...), baby-corn, mushroom and ham stir-fry, broccoli, ginger/soy/chilli rice noodles, pickled onions and fried broccoli stalk. Really filling bento today, I couldn't finish it all...
Here we have a case of 'what have I got left in the damn fridge?' added to 'oh no! I'm late!' Lunch therefore is a little boring. On the left we have green grapes, mushrooms fried in soy sauce and pickled onions (really have to buy more of those), and the right has steamed broccoli and some sliced ham.
What can I say? It filled a hole, but I wouldn't rave about it, and I don't plan on having the same thing again any-time soon... Also bad photo is bad... Clockwise from top left we have sautéed broccoli stalk, pickled onions, one egg tamagoyaki, steamed broccoli, Rice noodles in a chilli, soy and sesame oil dressing (they got a little stuck together so I'm going to use a bit more next time), a cheese and sesame snaps
Went meat-free today, but with the egg I didn't miss it at all. On top we have steamed rice topped with peas and scrambled egg, between the rice and toppings there is a layer of torn-up nori (forgot to include my little bottle of soy in the picture, I'll try and remember for next time). In the top tier at the bottom of the picture we have seasoned broccoli, pickled onions and mushrooms fried in soy-sauce. Love my little picks, they just brighten up my day. They're from the Giant of course. Sorry this one's so late, the internet decided to crap out yesterday.
